Algae lights

2019 / Nannochloropsis Oculata, water, jars, light fixture

These lights were developed during a residency with Works on Water on Governor's Island in 2019, where I explored the use of algae as a new material in my art practice. These bio-lamps contain Nannochloropsis Oculata algae, which create a dynamic color component when lit from above. As the algae multiply, the hue and saturation of the light also changes.
